Set Dresser
Description
General Summary
The Set Dresser is responsible for overseeing the final artistic development of physically realized miniature sets
and environments. A Dresser will install scale props and dressing props
in accordance with the given production design, while visually
portraying the desired set effect. May adapt or fabricate sets and props as required, while ensuring the sets and props are maintained throughout the production.
Essential Job Functions
- Gathers and installs required assets on sets according to the production design.
- Prepares sets and assets for required shooting or production needs.
- Views film dailies and responds to recommendations regarding asset placement, texture or color modifications, and/or shooting needs.
- Coordinates desired set modifications with the fabrication departments.
- Ensures the sets and props are maintained throughout the production.
- Works directly with the camera crew, stage crew and the 1st Assistant Director.
- May conduct basic research or analysis and provide to others for use in decision making on some matters.
- Able to work under tight deadlines and communicate if deadlines are slipping or delayed.
- Makes and communicates estimated time needed to complete work and tasks.
Qualifications
- B.S./B.A. in film, art or related field or equivalent combination of education/or experience.
- 3+ years experience as a set dresser in live action, live stage or stop motion production environments.
- Experience with sets, scenic paint, miniatures and stop motion productions.
- Working knowledge of animation process.
- Good communication skills are essential as this position interacts
with a wide variety of production departments and individuals.
- Detail oriented.
