Purpose of the job:

The Character FX Pipeline Technical Director (CFX TD) is responsible for authoring and maintaining character effects tools and APIs for the CFX Department and productions. The CFX TD collaborates with peers, Leads, Pipeline Supervisors, and Production to ensure that the tools meet the needs of current projects and advance the capabilities of the facility.

The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of software design, computer graphics, and character effects methodologies.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

·         Work with peers, Supervisors, and artists to help design and craft character effects tools and APIs that compliment and         improve Digital Domain’s existing character effects pipeline. The CFX TD will be required to extend and integrate a range of proprietary software into our Maya based pipeline.

·         Work with the Character Effects Department Supervisor and CFX Leads to identify and prioritize development tasks.

·         Work with artists and show TDs to support character effects on active productions

·         Craft and update documentation for CFX tools, techniques and work flows

·         Work with the Rigging Department to unify toolsets and APIs where appropriate

·         Collaborate with the Pipeline Department to improve the quality of the existing tools and APIs

Education and/or Experience Required:

·         5+ years experience as a CFX Technical Director

·         Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience

·         Substantial knowledge of Python is strongly desired

·         Working knowledge of C++

·         Experience with UI toolkits such as Qt/PyQt is highly desired

·         Prior experience crafting APIs

·         Extensive experience with Maya CFX tools and it’s Python and C++ APIs

·         Proficiency with additional graphics packages including Houdini and Nuke are an asset

·         Ability to learn quickly and comprehend custom in-house production tools

·         Must have excellent communication and organizational skills

·         Requires and interest and ability to mentor and train talent in new tools and software
