Production Manager
Description
A Production Manager partners with the Visual Effects Producer to manage all aspects of a show’s production needs which include scheduling of crew and work, managing the show’s budget, providing on-going reports, production workflow, organizational needs, communication and assisting with preparing bids for clients. May also interact with clients when needed. This role reports to the Director of Talent Management for all other aspects of their job including career development, performance feedback, etc.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with the Producer on a day-to-day basis in tackling the numerous, varied tasks that arise in the course of production
- Work with the Producer to manage resources according to the bid (EFC Reports)
- Build and manages the overall show schedule, including both sequence and asset levels
- Facilitate show set up concerning leadership and production hierarchy
- Manage turnover meetings
- Set Priorities for each department based on dependencies and asset delivery
- Collaborate with Supervisors and Leads, via the Coordinators
- For shows led by other ILM studios, work with the local team to manager workflow for Singapore crews, collate respective bids, flag dependence and report weekly. Key contact on asset and shot production.
- Work closely with Talent Management to ensure show has the artist resources needed
- Mentor and support Singapore Production Support teams
- Under direction of VFX Producer, collaborate with CG Production managers on day-to-day crew needs as required.
- In collaboration with Producer and Supervisors, create overall show asset and shot schedule across all disciplines and capitalizing on external vendors, using ILM’s best practices for scheduling. Oversee implementation of schedule by guiding and directing coordinators, Supervisors and leads as needed.
- In collaboration with Producer, manage the production crew on a daily basis including directing Coordinators and Production Assistants to ensure all show needs are met.
- With input from Supervisors and VFX Producer, proactively identify and plan for work to be outsourced. Help identify vendors appropriate for body of work. Prepare vendor bidding packages, contribute to vendor cost analysis and weekly cost reporting as needed.
- Proactively problem-solve and raise concerns in all aspects of vendor relations.
- Provide support as liaison with vendors for technical and creative issues that arise to ensure work stays on schedule and optimal workflow is adhered to.
- Evaluate and learn individual artist strengths; help develop cross utilization of resources to promote an effective workflow.
- Act as default leader when Producer is out of office or otherwise engaged, and is responsible for directing ‘2nd lieutenant’ level duties with the production crew.
- Run bid meetings as needed. Budgeting may or may not be required, and would be left to the discretion of the Producer. In partnership with Producer, check EFC to make sure work is on budget.
- Manage client contact when Producer is absent or unavailable
- Travel for client meetings and/or plate shoots as needed
- Work on the same schedule as first or second unit production as needed
- Special projects as requested
Job Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Film or related field or equivalent work experience required.
- Five years minimum work experience in production. Strong working knowledge of Visual Effects techniques and terminology preferred.
- Proficiency in Macs/PCs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong scheduling experience required
- Working knowledge of Linux a plus
- Display clear communication, strong organizational skills, reliable follow-through and the ability to juggle conflicting priorities gracefully
- Must possess very strong organizational and communication skills and be able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner while meeting deadlines.
