Position Description
A Senior Editor at ToonBox is the key
creative editorial voice behind a feature film or project.
Responsibilities include an expert level of storytelling, used when
assembling raw material into a finished product suitable for screening
as required. The material they work with consists of storyboards, raw
footage, animation, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special
effects. This is a key role throughout the production process and the
editor's skill can determine the quality and delivery of the final
product. The editor is expected to work closely with the director to
achieve the desired end result. The senior editor also oversees junior
and assistant editors.
Responsibilities:
- To collaborate with the Director/Production Team to explore and
develop the visual story of a variety of in-house productions including
feature films, television programmes.
- To listen to the director’s verbal description/launch of sequences
and shots and realise character action / pacing / mood / cinematography
via editing through use of the Avid (and possibly Premiere / Final Cut
Pro / any other NLE.)
- To assemble all raw material including storyboards previz, rough
animation, final animation, and effects takes, in preparation for
inputting into the computer;
- Listen to all audio takes, both temporary “scratch” dialogue and
final takes with the actors, assembling them into entertaining
sequences.
- To input uncut rushes and sound, and synchronising and storing them into files on the computer;
- To digitally cut the files to determine the sequence of the film and determining what is usable;
- To create a 'rough cut' of the programme/film and determine the exact cutting for the next and final stages;
- To re-order and tweak the content to ensure logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video.
- To create new and interesting ideas to capture both the activity and the emotion of the scene.
- To organize and manage project files (dialogue, sound effects,
music, picture) to ensure all sequences/productions are maintained at
the studio in an orderly and consistent fashion.
- To revise and modify edits as indicated by the director or creative team.
- To implement various computer programs to enhance the visual
presentation of ideas for the scene or for effectively capturing the
director's ideas for shots/sequences.
- To output projects according to studio requirements and specifications, including Blu-Ray and stereoscopic deliverables.
- To manage and oversee his/her team to ensure all CG departments,
from pre-viz to layout, animation, and lighting/compositing, are
supported
- To maintain awareness of the broader show needs as they relate to
aspects of art and design and related revisions which includes, but is
not limited, to stereoscopy;
- To work in adherence to budget and schedule constraints while
maintaining continuity within the story, cinematography, aesthetics,
mood.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven ability in Picture cutting animated features
- Able to prioritize appropriately and always meet deadlines.
- Excellent teamwork – ability to assemble and motivate teams and work effectively with others.
- Strong written & verbal communication – good at following directions.
- Organization - demonstrate organizational skills, including a strong attention to detail.
- Strong storytelling and visual language
Qualifications:
- Experience in traditional 2D and 3D animation production.
- Editor of previous feature films that have been released theatrically.
- 5+ years of CG animation/industry experience.
- Excellent Avid skills.
- Proficient in Shotgun
Annual Salary: $80,000 to $170,000 - Based on experience
