About this Position

DHX Studios Vancouver is looking for a Harmony Technical Artist to support the development of our Harmony Pipeline! As a Harmony Technical Artist, you will work closely with the production, artists, and pipeline teams, to ensure the smooth and efficient running of our Harmony productions. The ideal candidate will also have a solid understanding of 2D animation techniques and production, ideally from direct experience in the industry. 

Responsibilities

  • Help design, build, and maintain an efficient 2D animation production pipeline
  • Identify and fix any holes in the pipeline
  • Develop a number of tools, scripts, and/or plugins to help automate or improve workflow
  • Work on integration and naming conventions with our in-house tracking system
  • Check in with a team of artists to help identify tools that are needed, including possible “wish list” items
  • Quickly and accurately import, convert, and create new production assets for the 2D animation team, including rigging characters and objects
  • Problem solve and work with artists, production, and pipeline teams to discover the best solutions
  • Deliver polished and functional assets to the 2D animation team within production deadlines
  • Develop content creation guidelines and help enforce them through tools and reminders as necessary
  • Collaborate with animators to design new rigs that best fit their needs, and assist with fixing existing rigs as necessary
  • Understand and assist in speeding up slow rigs, or simplifying complex rigs

Qualifications

  • 2-5+ years’ experience as an animation Technical Artist and/or Technical Director
  • Strong scripting and technical artist abilities
  • Effective and professional communication skills 
  • In-depth experience with character rigging in ToonBoom Harmony 12.1, including full character turnaround deformation rigs
  • Competency (preferably fluency) in Adobe Photoshop, Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Flash CS5+, Perforce, and Shotgun
  • Hard coding skills are a benefit
