About the Position

DHX Studios – Vancouver is looking for Model/Texture Artists to join our production team! As a Model/Texture Artist, you have exceptional skills and experience in modelling and texturing in Maya. You create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the artistic goals and story concepts of the production. You will be working in collaboration with the modelling team to create and deliver quality 3D models for DHX Studios on our Hybrid 2.5D Cinematic-release Feature Film.

Responsibilities

  • Create geometry and UVs for assets (characters, props, sets, etc.) based on production guidelines
  • Ensure modelling assets are delivered in the expected quality and technical requirements of the show
  • Communicate and collaborate with the design and rigging departments to meet the artistic and technical needs of the production.
  • Modify and improve existing modelling assets when needed
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from directors and supervisors in a timely and qualitatively acceptable way         
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
  • Prevent and minimize production issues by being proactive and communicating concerns with modelling supervisor and leads in advance.
  • Keep current on modelling techniques and technology
  • Recommend any team training needs to the modelling supervisor
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in animation or film industry
  • Strong ability to create stylized textures with a “hand-painted” appeal
  • Proficiency in Maya and Photoshop is a must
  • Experience in Mudbox and/or Zbrush is a benefit
  • Experience with rigging and/or shading (particularly with Mental Ray networks) is a benefit
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to take direction, collaborate, and be a team player
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a professional and positive manner
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
  • Encourage feedback and new initiatives
  • Ability to adapt to multiple show styles
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
