Faculty Animation

Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Villa Maria College is seeking a full-time faculty member, starting fall 2016, for its BFA program in Animation. Villa Maria College is a small, private, co-educational college with specialized programs in the applied arts and music combined with a liberal arts core, education, business, and health programs.

The Animation Program at Villa Maria College began fall 2008 and is a competitive, hands-on, and demanding program that recruits highly talented and committed students.  The intimate class size allows instructors the opportunity to know students, and have an impact on their lives.  Villa Maria has two state-of-the-art animation labs, each with 17 workstations and Wacom tablets, including software such as the Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite, Adobe CC, and Toon Boom Harmony. Additional workstations are dedicated solely for rendering.  There is also a stop-motion studio that uses Dragon Stop-Motion, as well as a separate puppet-building facility.  The program offers HD digital video cameras, digital still cameras, as well as an audio sound effects library for the students to use for their projects.  Villa’s Animation students have also successfully collaborated with Villa Music students to write and record scores for student films, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with students entering Villa’s BFA in Digital Filmmaking program, which begins Fall 2016.

The first two years of the Animation program stress the understanding of animation principles, acting, film theory, and storytelling, and give the students traditional and technical tools and software to be able to bring their stories to life. Students then take part in a formal review process to determine a specialization, at the end of their sophomore year.  The specialization becomes the focus of their studies in the junior and senior years.
