VANCOUVER - VFX Producer

Industrial Light & Magic (Vancouver) Inc is seeking a VFX Producer.  The Producer partners with the Visual Effects Supervisor and Animation Director to lead the crew in fulfilling the Director’s vision – on time and on budget, while maintaining the highest quality of work.  Primary responsibility is budget and schedule, in collaboration with the Client and ILM management, and for managing the overall Client relationship.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Meets with Client(s) to review scripts, breakdowns and story boards for a specific project;
- Partner with Key Creatives to develop the approach for creating the effects work, and provide Client(s) with estimates of budget and schedule requirements needed to complete the work;
- Prepares bid letters, key dates schedules, and assumptions for the work scope of a specific project;
- During production, serves as the principle Client contact for non-creative issues, tracking and reporting progress of work, budging and negotiating cost of work, and delivering cost/schedule changes to ensure Client is updated as appropriate;
- Creates, organizes and maintains overall project schedule;
- Manages crew performance and supervises assigned production staff, in collaboration with CG Talent Management function;
- Estimates project budgets and initiates cost controls for each production;
- Evaluates EFC and works with production accounting to provide management with early, consistent, and accurate EFC reporting;
- Participates and oversees work on-set as required;
- Plays a pro-active, key role in marketing ILM’s services to the industry;
- Shares responsibility for the success of the entire ILM portfolio by pro-actively managing the project schedule, and by extension crew resources; strategically leverages ILM’s global resources and third-party partners where appropriate.
- Role likely requires weekend work, travel, schedule synching with first or second unit production.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree or greater in Film Production, or experience in lieu
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a project management role in post-production visual effects, animation or gaming
- Understanding of CG terminology, and a thorough understanding of the processes and disciplines involved in CG post-production
- Proven strong negotiating skills and an excellent track record of building and maintaining key Client relationships
- Focus on strategic approach with the ability to address unexpected challenges in stride; calm, “can-do” attitude with an emphasis on collaborative communication.
- Anticipates risks / challenges and pro-actively develops alternatives with key stakeholders
- Proven analytical skills, effective scheduling and time management abilities
- Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a diverse range of personality types, perspectives and talents

This is a full-time, temporary (project-based) position offering 4% vacation pay above base wage, and health and dental benefits including MSP.  Our studio offers a free on-site fitness centre.  Expected salary range is $120,000 to $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
