Senior Technical Artist (Contract)

Summary:

Monolith is seeking a Senior Technical Artist for a 9 month contract.

Job Responsibilities

  • To optimize art assets (both character and environment) so they run as efficiently as possible while still maintaining the visual fidelity.
  • To prepare character assets for game systems that bring the characters to the next level of gaming, including skeleton systems, cloth systems, particle effect emitters, ragdoll collision and more.
  • To assist with environment set up including physics barriers
  • To assist in shader optimization.
  • To ensure that the high-quality bar established by the Art Director, Lead Character Artist, and Animation Lead is maintained.
  • Help develop tools and scripts to aid Animation and art creation
  • Mentors Junior artists
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Experience
  • 3+ years experience in the industry
  • At least 1 published game preferably 360 or PS3

Knowledge/Skills

  • At least 3+ years experience with industry standard 3-D package (3D Studio Max preferred but Maya, XSI acceptable.)
  • Able to grasp and enjoy highly technical work.
  • Solid experience and understanding of art/animation pipelines on Xbox 360 and/or PS3.
  • Solid understanding of rigging skeletal systems with Biped.
  • Basic understanding of methods of optimizing game art assets for game engines.
  • Familiarity with modeling and texturing methods.
  • Basic understanding of shaders.
  • Able to learn new packages and proprietary tools.
  • Able to solve tech problems across the board including complex gameplay problems arising from the implementation/integration of content with design requirements.
  • Solid organization skills with adherence to file structures, naming conventions and other established protocols.
  • Able to self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Must work well within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially within the animation department.
  • Willingness to accept direction and redo/iterate work until it's right.
  • Must have an active, passionate interest in current video games to help drive the game to the next level.
