Academic Program Coordinator/Prof. of Animation

Description

Provide vision and leadership for the animation department at SCAD while applying your industry experience and expert technical proficiency in the classroom as the academic program coordinator and professor of animation. We are looking for someone who will develop and extend students’ awareness of story, design, audience and collaboration in production. Therefore, a keen understanding of commercial or independent filmmaking would be a major asset for anyone seeking this position.

You will teach a unique curriculum that explores animation styles ranging from stop-motion to 3-D animation and includes digital modeling, rigging, lighting and look development. This is your chance to work with talented students within the historic district of Savannah, Georgia, a walkable, bikeable coastal city that provides a living laboratory for the study of art and design.

Responsibilities:
- Develop curriculum
- Work with the department chair to provide vision and leadership for the animation department
- Foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of the SCAD animation department in academic and professional circles
- Oversee departmental budget, including its development and implementation
- Work with the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and to the animation department
- Teach classes annually, as assigned
- Manage festival planning and submissions with the awards office
- Assist with organizing screenings and events
- Assist chair in evaluating professors within the department through class observations, a review of student evaluations, a review of service and professional development and a review of contributions to the department goals
- Work with the chair and dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors
- In consultation with the chair, dean and department members, develop a strategic plan for the department that is consistent with the School of Digital Media’s goals and overall SCAD strategic plan

Requirements:
- Terminal degree or its equivalent in animation or a related field
- Strong portfolio of work that reflects a high degree of knowledge in animation
- Ability to demonstrate, by providing an online demo reel, expertise in character animation (multiple mediums preferred: 2-D, 3-D, stop-motion, hybrid)
- University-level teaching experience, proven leadership skills and ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds preferred
- Ability to motivate students and faculty to think creatively and critically
- Proficiency in state-of-the-art software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Maya, ZBrush, Toon Boom, Harmony, Unreal or Unity
- University-level administration experience preferred
