Summary of Position |
The Department of Computer Science at
University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a
tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor to begin August 2017.
The candidate who fills this position will have the opportunity to work
closely with the department’s growing Digital Arts program and
collaborate with students and faculty in Computer Science, Film Studies,
and Art and Art History. Duties include undergraduate and graduate
teaching, maintaining an active research program, and directing
undergraduate and graduate students. |
Minimum Requirements |
Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely
related area required, with emphasis in computer graphics,
visualization, virtual reality, animation or closely related area
desired. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Prior teaching experience preferred. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The department offers a concentration and
a minor in Digital Arts that are being pursued by over 60 students
combined. The department also houses a Digital Arts Lab for students
taking courses, pursuing research, and participating in extracurricular
activities in this area. UNCW’s Departments of Film Studies and Art and
Art History are active in the Digital Arts program, offering
collaborative opportunities for the candidate to develop
cross-disciplinary classes and research.
The Department of Computer Science is a community of scholars
dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and service.
It strives for excellence in teaching and offers a modern curriculum
leading to an undergraduate degree in computer science. It considers the
use of experiential education, including project-based software
development and internships, to be essential for effective learning. The
Department is committed to preparing its students for careers in the
emerging knowledge-based economy and helping them become life-long
learners.
The department currently has fourteen full-time faculty members and
offers the B.S. degree in computer science, the B.S. degree in
information technology, and the M.S. degree in computer science and
information systems.
