Senior Rendering Engineer

Description

The primary responsibility of the Senior Rendering Engineer at Sledgehammer Games is to be responsible for developing rendering subsystems for multiple console platforms, as well as building the foundation for future rendering technology needs.  The Senior Rendering Engineer will be responsible for executing on rendering features meeting the game’s artistic vision. The Rendering Engineer will be working hand-in-hand with our Rendering Lead Engineer, and artists.  Qualified candidates need to be a self-starter, able to operate in a highly dynamic environment, and have concise execution during times of high stress.  This is a great opportunity for someone who has a solid technical background, a passion for the gaming industry, enjoys working with a powerful engineering team, and the desire and vision to move rendering architecture into the future.  This position reports into the Lead Engineer and will interact directly with all disciplines of the development team.  

 

Responsibilities:

• Architect, refactor and maintain rendering pipelines and features

• Design, write, debug and refine rendering systems, features, tools and infrastructure as needed

• Work with other rendering engineers in developing the games “look”

• Execute on the rendering domain roadmap for future initiatives

 

 Qualifications:

• 7+ years rendering programming experience

• Contributed extensively to the development of three or more shipped games, PC or console

• Proficient with 3D math including linear algebra (vector math, matrices)

• Proficient in lighting, fx, post processing, shaders

• Demonstrated proficiency in and knowledge of C/C++, data structures, performance, and multi-threaded programming techniques

• Profile and performance tuning of rendering code, including experience with PIX & GPAD

• Knowledge of common data structures and algorithmic solutions 

• Ability to quickly understand and work with internal and externally developed code 

• University-level degree in Computer Science or related field 

• A strong passion for video games of many kinds; development experience in FPS a plus

• A proven track record of working well with senior developers in dynamic and fast paced environments 

 

Recommended:

• Experience with computer game technologies including: Camera systems, AI programming, physics, 3D programming, animation, collision detection

• Demonstrated ability to write clean, readable, portable, reliable, and optimized code on current-gen consoles

• Proven ability to lead other engineers through direct and indirect reports
