SUMMARY OF POSITION

NetherRealm Studios, a division of WB Games Inc., seeks a Material Artist who will be responsible for creating character materials of the highest quality. This person will work closely with the Lead Character Artist along with the Art Director to create and maintain the highest quality assets for the game, and ensure that the aesthetic goals are met.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using industry standard material creation tools as well as proprietary team tools, designs and implements material systems for texturing characters for their assigned development project.
  • Ensures that the high-quality bar established by the Art Director and Lead Artist is maintained by themselves and their team.
  • Continues research and development into best practices and industry innovation.
  • Mentors more junior members of the character team and shares acquired knowledge with the group.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to share personal ideas and define the look and feel of characters.
  • Report daily to the Lead Artist with progress status.
  • Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Extensive art and design experience on previous video game development teams.
  • Must possess good artistic skills and a working knowledge of art production.
  • Must have a portfolio of past work as example of artistic skill.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly skilled with node based procedural PBR material creation. Unreal and Substance Designer are preferred.
  • A Working knowledge of Substance Painter is required.
  • A working knowledge of Maya is required.
  • Experience with real time PBR material creation
  • Experience working with optimized game resolution textures.
  • Strong UV layout skills.
  • Experience with modern real-time 3d engines is a plus, Unreal is preferred.
  • Experience with high polygon sculpting in ZBrush, not required but a plus.
  • Receptive to direction and perform well within a team environment.
  • Self-motivated.
