The College of Arts & Media, located on the Downtown Denver campus, offers B.F.A. and B.A. degrees in Studio Arts, Art History, Film and Television and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Music with studies in the rapidly growing field of audio forensics. Visual Arts majors select programs in Art History, Drawing, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Digital Design and Digital Animation.
The Visual Arts Department in the College of Arts & Media at the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) seeks a qualified individual to fill a full-time ranked faculty position as an Assistant / Associate Professor in Animation. Qualified candidates should have a professional background working in a studio environment and will be expected to teach courses in 3D modeling, animation, texturing and lighting, and rigging. This position has a starting date of August 2017.
In addition to teaching, research and service the hired candidate will provide vision and leadership for the animation emphasis through the management of budgets for faculty, staff, operations, and technology investments; development of class schedules and faculty teaching assignments; review of full time and part-time faculty; promotion and maintenance of high standards of instruction; development of innovative new curricula; care of existing and future programs; and oversight of annual review of applicants to the program. The ideal candidate will be one with expertise in, and a keen understanding of, industry animation production pipelines, community outreach, student mentorship and academic program development.

DAC faculty are experienced professionals with many years of real, practical work experience in a wide variety of animation expertise from broadcast, film, museum, scientific visualization, simulation and the gaming industries. The goal of the Digital Animation Center is to bring together diverse scholars and practitioners enable student success in creative imaging and visualization solutions for evolving research, production and entertainment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MFA or PhD degree or its equivalent in animation/cg/visual effects or a related field
- Strong portfolio of work that reflects a high degree of knowledge in animation/cg/visual effects
- Strong record of professional activity and accomplishments in the field
- 4 or more years of industry experience
- Strong understanding of the entire production pipeline
- Dedication to curricular innovation
- Ability and willingness to discern and meet the needs of students
- Ability to work with others in a collegial and productive manner
- College-level teaching experience
- Experience in supporting faculty attainment and working within a university environment
- Budget management experience
