Layout Technical Director

Rising Sun Pictures is currently looking for experienced Layout Technical Directors to join our Layout team.

Employment period: Range of 6 month & long-term positions available, with an immediate start.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. These positions are open to Australian and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.


Position Overview

The Layout Department is pivotal in supplying elements for use by all downstream departments. Layout TD's share the same responsibilities as the Layout Artists, and also need to be proficient in setting up the most complex scenes with a broad variety of components such as projections, and asset compilations, while also creating custom solutions to challenging problems.

Contributing to the development of the specialist layout toolset and working closely with pipeline engineering, Layout TD's assist in the development of workflow and production tools.

Your proven ability to construct compelling cinematography through digital set building will ensure your success. You value the relationship between all scene objects relative to the camera. To that end, you transition between the artistic & technical challenges with ease. You are mindful of optimising scene assets to ensure downstream render success.

You possess a technical understanding of physical camera attributes and the spatial relationship between large number of physical and digital assets.


Responsibilities

• Environment and scene setup.
• Camera animation and character blocking.
• Set dressing.
• Blocking for shots.
• Maintaining sequence continuity.
• Photogrammetry reconstruction of live action locations.
• Creation of high quality playblasts and renders for review.
• Camera matchmove and character matchanimation/solving (Experience with 3d package embedded solver engines is a plus).
• Tool development with documentation creation, and ongoing support within a Maya / Linux environment.
• Pipeline support within the Layout dept.
• Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace, influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic.

• Minimum 3+ years layout experience working with live action footage, image planes and projections for high-end feature films.
• Strong understanding of asset pipelines.
• Python knowledge.
• Expert knowledge of scene setups.
• Expert knowledge of asset handling with a visual effects pipeline.
• Strong creative eye for cinematography and composition.
• Strong problem solving skills for technical and creative problems alike.
• Strong communication skills.
• An ability to work to direction in a collaborative environment.
• C++, Qt and Maya Api experience is a plus.
• Unreal Engine experience is a plus.
• Understanding of Cinematography and real experience with real world camera's is a plus.
• Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a deadline focused work environment.
• Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants.
