Live VR Broadcast EIC

Purpose of the job:

It’s an exciting time at Digital Domain. Our Virtual Reality Platform is expanding exponentially and we want your expertise. We are looking for a Live VR Broadcast EIC who is as passionate about creating cutting edge VR productions as we are.

As the Live VR Broadcast Executive in Charge, you will support all Digital Domain’s Live VR productions including live-streaming landmark events in 360° Virtual Reality, performing quality control measurements to insure proper video and audio quality is maintained and working closely with our creative production management, engineering, and integration teams to ensure all engineering related items are delivered as needed for production.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Live Broadcast EIC who not only thrives in a faced paced environment, but is looking to broaden their experience with immersive technology and help usher the entertainment industry into a new era, bringing immersive visual experiences directly to captivated audiences.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Support and execute live programming
  • Conduct quality control of all pre-contribution encode outgoing feeds
  • Monitoring, trouble shooting, maintaining studio equipment and setup needs. 
  • Hands on responsibilities involve making sure all broadcast equipment is calibrated and operating correctly during studio productions. 
  • Engineer will learn & have full understanding of the technical facility and the complex broadcast video/audio equipment and systems within the network center. 
  • The engineer interacts daily with local clients. 
  • The engineer will be responsible to follow all Digital Domain standards and guidelines.
  • Adjusts, aligns and integrates all elements of truck and/or Flight Pack equipment inventory to provide a mobile production facility as required by events. Elements include but not limited to camera, lenses, video servers and other video recording devices.
  • Responsible for reading and understanding patchfield layouts and signal flow diagrams.
  • Understands, configures and maintains broadcast transmission including audio, video, and fiber systems.
  • Understands video and audio file formats and structures for both import and export to post-production and IP-delivered sources and destinations.

Qualifications: Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Min. 5 years experience in broadcast engineering & studio operations.
  • Candidates must have experience working on studio television shows (live or non-live productions).
  • Must be knowledgeable in all areas of technical production and familiar with all production equipment, both standard and high definition including file based workflow, tape, drive and memory based video technology, production switchers, routers, cameras, RTS intercoms, and transmission equipment. 
  • Must have a strong, working knowledge of television systems engineering. Additionally, knowledge of the integration of complex broadcast television systems and can troubleshoot computer based broadcast equipment. 
  • In-depth knowledge of video encoding standards such as MPEG, H.26X and others is a plus.
  • Detailed understanding of IT networking and systems, firewalls, fiber-optics, MPEG, SAN and RAID based systems, TCP/IP, DNS, and SNMP.
  • Used and deployed Evertz terminal equipment: audio embedders, time code generation, EXQ routers and VIP systems.
  • Hands on experience with TAC & SMPTE fiber deployment.
  • Experience with servicing, customizing and deploying fiber systems like the Multidyne Silverback system.
  • Familiar with location comms & audio mixing systems. Calrec, ClearCom, RTX, Studer & SoundCraft.
  • Able to directly support and interface with producers, TD’s, A1’s and network operation managers.
  • Able to visually identify video signal issues, noise, compression artifacts, sensor base issues, quantization errors, aliasing, etc.
  • Experience with 4K cameras and 4K broadcast infrastructure a major plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Visio is a strong plus.
  • Ability to support others in the process of video streaming during live events.
  • Able to succeed in high pressure live production environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Must perform job duties with little to no supervision while remote.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills while under time and resource constraints with strong prioritization and triage skills.
  • Experience in 360° or Immersive experiences a bonus
  • Bachelor or Associates Degree or equivalent broadcasting experience. 

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: 

  • Office working environment.
  • Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs.
  • Walking/bending/sitting.
  • Extensive travel.
