UI Artist

Description

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a UI Artist to collaborate in the design and creation of the user interface for our next great multi-platform RPG. 

This artist will be responsible for developing a ground breaking user-experience, responsibilities will include: inventing concepts, mocking up designs (static and animated), creating assets, importing them, assembling them and animating them in Unreal's UMG.

Requirements:

  • 3-7+ years of professional experience working as a UI artist in computer or console gaming
  • 1-2+ AAA titles shipped as a UI Artist
  • Ability to collaborate with  a multidiscipline development team to design, implement, and iterate the all in-game UI/UX including: HUD, windows, menus and other interactive elements and screens
  • Able to mock-up layouts and contemporary animations and effects for UI elements in Flash and/or After Effects
  • Are extremely familiar with UI development in Unreal, Flash, and Photoshop
  • Be self-motivated, self-managing, and have a passion for contemporary video games
  • Able to adhere to tight schedules with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be receptive to art direction and perform well within a team setting
  • Must be attentive to schedules and work well under pressure
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate UI art development within the UI team and other developers and stakeholders
  • Create user interfaces that manage complex information and flow intuitively on console and PC
  • Create initial mock-ups for a variety of UI screens including but not limited to title and loading screens, in-game HUD, in-game menus and backgrounds, etc. Initiate and follow through their implementation; iterating as necessary for the highest quality visual and UX results
  • Create UI assets in Photoshop and implement in Unreal, using UMG and its tools, as well as the material editor
  • Maintain and optimize UI assets as necessary
  • Collaborate effectively with developers and stakeholders during review sessions in order to achieve intuitive functionality and an attractive visual appearance
  • Create and maintain project documentation in Confluence
  • Manage tasks (descriptions, dependencies, priorities, etc.) and provide feedback in Jira
  • Meet project deadlines and milestones, as set by project leads, and the producer

Pluses:

  • Previous experience developing console or PC RPGs
  • Previous experience with in-engine UI development
  • Possess a good technical aptitude and some knowledge of Unreal Blueprints
  • Previous experience with video editing or compositing
  • Examples of web design experience (Flash, HTML, CSS, or XML)
  • Familiarity with any of the following programs:   After Effects, Perforce, Confluence, and Jira
  • An understanding of typography

Portfolio Requirements:

  • A web portfolio that demonstrates a range of high quality PC and Console game UI screens and UI animation
  • Samples from previous industry work
