FULL STACK SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, AVIONICS

The Avionics Hardware Development team develops the electronics that control and fly the vehicles SpaceX designs and makes. You will be working in a team of mostly hardware engineers helping them to build products more reliably, faster, and with better visibility between groups. The ideal candidate is a problem solver who likes building tools that directly improve people’s workflows, is willing to listen to user feedback, and enjoys working in a fast paced environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for defining and implementing new tools that allow us to build the electronics that fly rockets. You will work with avionics engineers to gather user interface goals and requirements, building applications that integrate with many APIs and databases from many areas of the SpaceX engineering and production teams. Responsibilities include defining and scoping new projects, implementing and testing those projects, and maintaining and supporting projects on an ongoing basis.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other engineering discipline
  • Excellent communication skills, initiative and teamwork. We are looking for someone who loves to connect and collaborate with internal customers – hearing and addressing their concerns and problems
  • A passion for building awesome applications that you can be proud of
  • Feels at home using command-line applications in a Linux environment


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

More than anything else, the ability to learn on the fly and work well with others is what we look for in a candidate. With that said, here are specific skills which are strongly correlated with this position.

  • Experience writing object-oriented code in JavaScript, Python, C#, C++, or similar
  • Experience with creating SQL databases and exposing them through robust APIs
  • Experience writing and debugging dynamic client-side applications using client-side MVC/templating frameworks like Angular.js, Mustache, Ember.js, or similar
  • Experience with test driven development and continuous integration


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
