 Job Description

Industrial Light & Magic (Vancouver) Inc is seeking a Matchmove/Layout Artist.  The Matchmove/Layout Artist collaborates with artists, supervisors and directors to pre-visualize film sequences and concept art for animated features and live action feature film projects.

Roles & Responsibilities
*converts background plates to various formats to use with specific software to create digital motion files that match plate photography; includes animating live-action characters or relative objects in the scene
*generates 2D compositing elements while maintaining the accuracy of camera perspective
*models the set geometry used to create the matchmove and environment for Animators and Technical Directors
*lights, renders and composites files with the background to test / judge the camera tracking
*originates CG camera animation
*part of the team which acts as the central hub for all shot preparation, ensuring continuity and camera accuracy in all CG plates
*under direction of the Supervisor(s), sets up technical and aesthetic approaches of the matchmove for the shot, sequence, or full project
*maintains expert level of knowledge about current developments in matchmove tools for computer graphics, especially in areas that relate to the film industry

Qualifications & Experience

*at least three years' relevant work experience
*ability to reproduce exact camera moves within a computer environment
*understanding of photography and the effects of different lenses on perspective
*typically has experience as an artist, animator, or camera operator
*skills in modeling, animation, camera composition or cinematography
*willingness to learn new tools, proven ability to be detail-oriented and work efficiently within a production environment
*excellent problem solving skills including the ability to work under tight deadlines
*good written and oral communication skills including strong interpersonal skills
*demo reel required. 

This is a full-time, temporary (project-based) position offering 4% vacation pay above base wage, and health and dental benefits including BC MSP.  Our studio offers a free on-site fitness centre.  Expected salary range is $$54,800 - 87,100 annually plus Premium Pay (1.5x hourly effective rate after 40 hours, 2x hourly effective rate after 60 hours weekly), commensurate with experience.
