Want to make some amazing animation with remarkably talented teams in a fun and welcoming studio? DHX Media – Halifax is looking for an experienced Previs Artist to join our team!

Do you love to realize the vision that supports a great narrative?

Do you have at least 2 years of production experience?

As a Previs Artist working closely with Directors and Previs Supervisors, you know your number one priority is to transform a script into a creative visual world that sustains the narrative and inspires your fellow crew members. You can take direction and execute with precision as you define and interpret specific instruction for realizing the creative direction. You can solve problems and handle various levels of complexity while maintaining a solid footing in the story. In recognizing this is a collaborative process with the rest of the Previs team, you think about camera angles, lenses and moves, blocking, frame composition, staging, continuity and sequence editing. You respect the parameters of production as you work in this crucial phase that maps the entire production process.

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO:

• 3D visualization of storyboard animatic
• Establish camera blocking, composition and lens choice
• Pro-actively identify possible creative / technical problems with shots
• Complete assigned sequences within scheduled timeframe
• Ensure shot continuity
• Keep current on layout techniques and technology

WHAT YOU BRING:

• 2+ years of experience in animation or film industry
• Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience
• Solid knowledge of  Maya
• Ability to interpret storyboards and realize them in a 3D environment
• Firm understanding of cameras, staging, composition, perspective, pacing, timing and cinematography concepts in animation context
• Solid understanding of cinematic language and camera terminology
• Ability to clearly communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
• Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively under deadline pressure

BONUS POINTS FOR THE FOLLOWING:

• Basic modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting experience or exposure
