Look Development Supervisor

Position Overview:           

The Look Development Supervisor will oversee the look of assets as per direction from the Art and Design Department, in collaboration with the Lighting and Surfacing Supervisors. They need to use technical skill and aesthetic judgment in order to create final looks for assets that are of high production quality on a consistent basis. As the Look Development stage of production transitions to shot production, the Look Development Supervisor will give technical assistance as required to the Lighting department.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage the team and creation of final looks for 3D characters and environments used in production.
• Partner with the Lighting and Surfacing Supervisors to create shading workflows and help implement shading and texturing standards.
• Work with the Lighting and Surfacing Supervisors to design and write custom shaders and shading networks to create desired looks for feature animation.
• Help develop solutions for technical problems during shot production.

Skills & Requirements:

• 5+ years of proven supervisory experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production.
• Demonstrate an excellent understanding of light, color, contrast, shading, and lighting design
• Experience shading, lighting and rendering with Maya, RenderMan and/or Arnold. Experience with OSL a bonus.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and dedication to responsibilities.
• Knowledge of Python and Mel with an ability to write code and assist in tool/pipeline R&D development helpful but not required.
• BC residents preferred, but not required.
