Lead Character Technical Artist - LA

Looking for a Lead Character Technical Artist to come join us in our Los Angeles studio!


Position

Responsibilities:

• Work in a team along with the Technical Director of Content, Character Art Director, Lead Technical Artist and Animators to ensure quality and performance are met across all character assets and their development processes.
• Lead and provide technical guidance to the Character Art Team.
• Collaborate with game designers, artists, and engineers to ensure that technical art toolset is serving the project needs.
• Responsible for integrating and reviewing technology directly related to the character art pipeline.
• Contribute a wide range of skills as a hands-on technical artist, with the ability to lead by example while helping to cultivate team member’s skills.
• Shape and evolve art pipelines, including proprietary tools, software, plug-ins, and game side technology
• Identify potential and recurring workflow problems and collaborate with other developers to come up with viable solutions.
• Supervise bug and task distribution and review character art and tech art work.
• Perform rigging and skinning of character assets
• Have a strong understanding of the theory and practical use of secondary motion set ups (cloth simulation, rigid body simulation, rope simulation)
• Provide mentorship and feedback to technical art team
• Carry out key department responsibilities that include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, reviewing work for quality, and appraising performance and resolving issues
• Keep aware of global industry trends in content production and technology for major entertainment forms (e.g., video games, film, animation, etc.) and present to appropriate stakeholders on a regular, recurring basis


Requirements

• 5+ years game industry production experience, 2+ years specifically in a lead role
• Demonstrated proficiency with Autodesk Maya 2016, Autodesk 3ds max 2014, Python 2.7, Allegorithmic Substance, Adobe Photoshop CC, and/or other modelling, rigging, material and texture creation tools
• Experience in the development of modelling, rigging, and texturing pipelines.
• Advanced knowledge of physically based rendering
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team
• Ability to easily communicate in English
• Multiple shipped AAA titles, with at least one in a Lead role
