Associate Technical Designer, Characters - LA

Cloud Imperium Games is looking for a Associate Technical Designer to join the Character team in our Los Angeles studio.

In this role, you will work with character artists to help configure and implement characters for use in Star Citizen and Squadron 42. This includes managing and configuring high fidelity character assets and complex data using our in-house tools. You will also work with leadership to ensure that characters are implemented at the highest fidelity possible.

You will be a key part of the Character team that’s working to ensure that Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are filled with a beautiful and diverse cast of characters.

Position

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new character clothing and armor configurations.
  • Maintain and update existing characters in Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
  • Work with technical leadership to maintain the character toolset and data system
  • Work with creative stakeholders to ensure characters meet narrative and design specifications
  • Ensure that all assets are implemented at the highest fidelity and quality possible.
  • Identify areas where the character development pipeline can be improved
  • Facilitate open communication between the Character team and Technical Design stakeholders

Requirements

  • Experience using real-time 3d engines (ex: Lumberyard, CryEngine, Unity or Unreal).
  • Experience with Autodesk Maya
  • Experience with scripting languages (XML, HTML, etc.)
  • Excellent understanding of FPS game design mechanics
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Experience working in a team environment and the ability to communicate effectively with artists, designers, and engineers.
  • Able to identify and solve problems in a complex technical asset pipeline
  • Self-motivated and driven to learn new systems and implement them quickly.
  • Passion for video games and game development

Pluses

  • Member of the Star Citizen community
  • Deep love of Science Fiction, including spacesuits and armor
  • Experience developing toolsets to manage data
  • Knowledge of large scale data storage and organization
  • Experience working as a level designer in the games industry
  • Experience with other aspects of Game Development such as, but not limited to: Character Design, Writing, Gameplay Programming and AI Design
