Professor of Visual Effects

Description

SCAD seeks a full-time professor of visual arts to join the university’s School of Digital Media.

Visual effects artists are masters of illusion, creating believable images that are impossible or impractical to shoot in the real world. In this role, you will help talented students turn their own dreams into reality. You will demonstrate expert proficiency in digital materials and textures, digital lighting and rendering, and compositing for technical direction, as well as a working familiarity with current tools and techniques of the visual effects industry.

Ideal candidates possess a clear understanding of programming, shell scripting, 3-D lighting and rendering for visual effects. This includes MEL and Python scripting, shader writing, combining multipass CG images, and rendering with Arnold Renderer and Renderman. Familiarity with Linux is required and knowledge of Katana is a plus.

You should also be proficient with current trends and technological developments in visual effects and technical direction. College-level teaching experience is preferred, and production experience in a supervisory capacity is strongly desired.

Requirements:
— Terminal degree or its equivalent in visual effects or a related field
— Experience or knowledge of related industries
— Ability to be credentialed through SACS guidelines or justified to teach
