Associate Chair of Animation

Description

Join SCAD as the associate chair of animation and provide vision and leadership for the department, and apply your industry experience and expert technical proficiency in the classroom.

In this role, you will develop and teach a unique curriculum that explores animation styles ranging from stop-motion to 3-D animation, includes a focus on digital modeling, rigging, lighting and look development, and extends students’ awareness of story, design, audience and collaboration in production.

Working with the chair of animation and the dean of the School of Digital Media, you will develop, implement and oversee the departmental budget, provide professional development opportunities for professors and create a strategic departmental plan that is consistent with the School of Digital Media’s goals and overall SCAD strategic plan. You will evaluate professors within the department through class observations and reviews of student evaluations, service and professional development opportunities, and contributions to department goals. Additionally, you will assist the admission department with undergraduate recruitment efforts.

This is your chance to work with talented students within the historic district of Savannah, Georgia, a walkable, bikeable coastal city that provides a living laboratory for the study of art and design.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio of work that reflects a high degree of animation knowledge, and an online demo reel that demonstrates expertise in character animation, preferably in multiple mediums such as 2-D, 3-D, stop-motion and hybrid. A keen understanding of commercial or independent filmmaking is essential to this role, as is the ability to motivate students and faculty to think creatively and critically.

Requirements:
? Terminal degree or its equivalent in animation or a related field
? Proficiency in state-of-the-art software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Maya, ZBrush, Toon Boom, Harmony, Unreal or Unity
? University-level teaching experience, proven leadership skills and ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds preferred
? University-level administration experience preferred
