Grooming Artist and Senior Rigging Artist

SENIOR RIGGING ARTIST

Job description:

Under the supervision of the Rigging Supervisor, the Rigging Artist is responsible for the construction of rigs for 3D characters, vehicles and props, and develops animation et rigging tools. He is responsible for creating animation interfaces that meet technical requirements and the artistic vision of the project.

Responsibilities:

  • Create rigs for 3D characters and animals models using MAYA with a focus on the quality of distortions;
  • Create rigs for 3D vehicles and props for film production;
  • Work with the Supervisor and Animation Director to create rigs that are suitable for animation;
  • Maintain timing and production quotas given by the coordination team and the Supervisor;
  • Execute the corrections requested by the Supervisor and the Director by showing an analytic mind;
  • Work with the Supervisor to ensure the integration and maintenance of configurations;
  • Organize work and prepare presentation elements for approval;
  • Communicate and seek information if necessary;
  • Maintain a good team dynamics.

Qualifications:

  • College diploma or equivalent in 3D computer graphics / 3D animation specialization;
  • Minimum 6 years of working experience in character models rigging with MAYA, in a film production  environment / animation TV series or visual effects;
  • Skills in facial animation preferably;
  • Strong sense of anatomy;
  • Strong knowledge of traditional animation techniques and characters movement principles;
  • Experience with PYTHON ;
  • Strong mastering of MAYA rigging tools especially for the creation of joints and skeletons, skinning and weighting, IK configuration, blendshapes and deformers, nodes dependency;
  • Be comfortable with a LINUX / UNIX environment;
  • Knowledge of an asset manager as SHOTGUN is a plus.

GROOMING ARTIST

Job description:

Under the supervision of the Texturing Supervisor and the Asset Supervisor, the Grooming Artist is responsible for designing the grooming of the characters, sets, vehicles and accessories. The artist interprets the 2D references and creates a representation in 3D while respecting the technical rules and the artistic vision established on the project.

 

Responsibilities:

·      Collaborate with the Textures Supervisor to determine the appearance of the hair and / or fur of the project assets;

·      Ensure that the grooming complies with the artistic and technical standards of the project;

·      Obtain a degree of realism adapted to the artistic orientation of the project;

·      Keep the schedule and production quotas given by the Production Coordinator;

·      Perform the corrections requested by the Supervisor and the Director with analytical skills;

·      Organize work and prepare presentation elements for reviews;

·      Communicate and seek information if needed;

·      Maintain good understanding and team dynamics;

 

Qualifications :

·      Have a college diploma in 3D animation;

·      Have at least two (2) years of experience as a Grooming Artist in the production of animated films / TV series or in visual effects;

·      Have a very good knowledge of the MAYA Xgen software;

·      Be comfortable with the LINUX / UNIX environment;

·      Know an asset manager like SHOTGUN is an asset;

·      Have a sense of detail, colors and shapes;

·      Having knowledge in rigging, modeling and lighting is a plus;

·      Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada and be willing to work in Montreal, Quebec;
