For over 20 years, Deck Nine Games has been making award-winning games and technology. Deck Nine has ranged far and wide with the genres and platforms for their games, but we were always building a reputation for innovative technology and compelling gameplay. For the past four years, Deck Nine has been focused on building remarkable tools and technology for the creation of dramatic storytelling games. We are currently in pre-production on our next big title. We recently shippped Before the Storm, a sequel to the hit game Life is Strange. We have additional projects in the pipeline and are continuing to grow our cinematic, artistic and narrative tools and technology.
Deck Nine Games is looking for experienced lighting artists to work directly with the art team on our next console game.
Responsibilities:
Adopt the art
direction for our games and play a key role in its execution.
Work with
cinematic artists to implement real time lighting on a per shot basis under
tight production schedules.
Responsible
for implementation of established key shot lighting throughout scenes.
Work closely
with environment and cinematic teams to ensure lighting consistency,
performance, and improvements.
Qualifications:
Experience working with lighting in Unreal Engine 4 preferred
Proven
industry experience in Film or Games generating final lighting scenario for
both the scene and characters
A strong
understanding of the digital lighting process, especially regarding static
lighting, light map creation, and static lighting volumes for dynamic assets
Strong
artistic ability to visualize lighting in three-dimensional space as well as an
understanding of light diffusion, atmospherics, and global illumination
A thorough
understanding of direct and indirect light, luminance and exposure along with a
general understanding of camera photography and lens functionality
A general
understanding of the narrative nature in lighting for film
A general
understanding of modern game engine shading techniques and physically based
shading and lighting models
Self-motivated
with a strong propensity to educate themselves and others
Good time
management skills with a strong propensity for prioritization and planning
The technical
ability to manage the limitations of lighting on real time engines regarding
frame rate and memory
Team oriented
communication skills, the ability articulate ideas, help others learn, and an
understanding of when to ask for help themselves
Must be willing to learn to work within our proprietary cinematic toolset
