CG Supervisor

Pipeline Studios is looking for a skilled and passionate CG Supervisor to join its growing team. As an industry leader, Pipeline creates some of the most innovative projects currently on the market, delivering over 1500 minutes of high-quality content per year; credited to our solid reputation in the global industry. 

Pipeline has produced some of the most exciting CG, 2D and custom hybrid digital productions coming out of Canada in the last several years. Along with developing our own IP for global distribution, our current clients include NBC/ Universal, Netflix, Disney XD, Discovery Nickelodeon and Nelvana.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for creating/enhancing/maintaining Production Pipeline of multiple projects
  • Creating 3D and/or 2D imagery and animated content for television/feature and/or commercial digital projects
  • Drive creative 3D/2D/Hybrid concepts with the rest of the technical/creative/IT/management teams through strong communication, leadership planning, concepts/sketches, etc.
  • Complete high-quality work, on time and to specification
  • Assist in the bidding process by breaking-down and quoting on complex projects
  • Attending client meetings from initial pitches and concepts, through to project completion
  • Nurturing/Mentoring direct reports/junior talent within the 3D/2D departments including management of key leaders within the technical and creative teams, including problem-solving and passing on of knowledge when necessary
  • Establish the technical direction and technical foundation to meet artistic, budget and schedule parameters
  • Collaborate with series directors, pipeline supervisor, modeling supervisor, VFX supervisor, team leads and other key members of the leadership team to develop a strong and flexible CG pipeline
  • Keep a critical eye for creativity, continuity issues between shots, quality control, and technical errors and artifacts
  • Facilitate and maintain open communication with production managers and series directors
  • Facilitate and develop consensus between technology, artists and production management
  • Identify, research, recommend and implement new techniques into studio tools, adding value to work produced
  • Oversee render and storage requirements for assigned projects
  • Find a balance between creative needs and technical resources available
  • Ensure that all production deadlines are met while producing work at a quality level in keeping with production requirements
  • Actively participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
  • Recommend any crew training needs to the studio
  • Train the team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively
  • Communicate expectations to the team while balancing creative desires with the requirements of production
  • Oversee the daily activities of the team
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments


Skills & Experienced:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the production of high-end 3D/2D projects for Television and Features
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, within the production team and with Producers, Director and clients.
  • Expert knowledge of advanced 3D modelling, rendering, animation, texturing, lighting, shading, effects, comp and rigging
  • Expert level Maya knowledge and node based comp software
  • Advanced rendering skills with a clean, modern aesthetics at industry standards
  • Familiarity with all pipeline issues and a typical post-production environment
  • Expertise in general compositing principles (Nuke/Fusion/Comp)
  • A knack for visual exploration of abstract concepts and translating color concepts thru digital 3D/2D pipelines
  • Self-motivated problem solver
  • Additional experience in broadcast or feature films production is a benefit
  • Provide general technical support to Artists and Technical Directors
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and adapt to ever-changing production requests
  • Strong Troubleshooting skills in Harmony. (Maya asset integration into Harmony scenes an asset
  • Learn current pipeline and work within the confines of the existing technology while keeping an eye on emerging technologies.
  • Maintain/enhance scripts for checking and publishing of assets
  • Keep production on schedule & provide updates to Production Coordinator & Directors
  • Foresee potential issues that may affect delivery and find solutions. 
  • Lead brainstorming ways to make production and tools more efficient.
  • Strong experience in a Toon Boom (Harmony, Storyboard Pro) Photoshop
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and follow through in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in 2D animation process an asset
  • Maintain a positive, upbeat and professional attitude, with the ability to work within tight deadlines
