DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Modeling Supervisor to join our team!
The role:
As a Modeling Supervisor, you will be responsible for establishing workflows, managing the modeling team, and training artists. In addition, you will collaborate with other Supervisors and Directors to ensure that modeling assets are passed across departments with efficiency, while meeting the creative and scheduling requirements of the production.
You will get to work on:
- Mentoring, training and assisting modeling team in both technical and creative capacities.
- Assigning assets to artists and keeping them up to date with the schedule and notes.
- Overseeing the daily activities, leading modeling department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the team.
- Communicating expectations to modeling team.
- Prioritizing modeling tasks and making sure the production schedule is met.
- Collaborating with designers and rigging artists to achieve both creative and technical goals within scheduled time frames.
- Anticipating, communicating, and troubleshooting any creative or technical issues.
- Working closely with pipeline team, developing new tools and improving artist workflow.
- Organizing training for new employees as well as refresher sessions for existing team members in order to keep them up to date with new tools and technics.
- Working closely with management to guide artists overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale within the team.
- Being able to determine and understand the needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses of the modeling team and use this information to contribute to the growth and development of the modeling team.
- Having the ability to provide constructive criticism, guidance, and feedback that will help others further their career development
- Executing initial employment processes by screening, interviewing and selecting personnel
- Assist the HR and Talent Acquisition departments in the development of job descriptions, sourcing of candidates as well as the candidate selection process
You will be a great fit on our team if you have…
- 4+ years of modeling experience for film or television
- 1+ years as a Lead or Supervising Modeler
- Excellent knowledge in Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
- Highly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic and positive attitude
- Good knowledge of the production process and pipeline
- Ability to predict potential problems and troubleshoot as necessary
- Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
- Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
- Practices attentive and active listening
- Encourage feedback and new initiatives
- Makes decisions in a timely manner
- Accepts accountability for own actions
- Shares information, methodologies and ideas with others
- Ability to deliver work on time and meet set performance objectives
Specific skills we’d love to see…
- Experience with V-Ray would be a benefit
- Knowledge of various renderers like Vray or Renderman is an asset
