Professor of Animation: 2D/Stop Motion

SCAD seeks a Professor of Animation with a specialty in 2D and stop motion animation for its Savannah location to help mold the next generation of cinematic animation artists.

In this position, you will teach a full course load, four classes each quarter throughout the academic year. You will also help create animation curriculum and maintain B.F.A., M.A., and M.F.A. degrees as well as plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable goals and outcomes for each course taught. As a leader, you will advise assigned students in academics and assist in registration including the review and approval of student schedules, using online registration software.

The Professor of Animation participates in department-related functions as required, including student advancement reviews, department openings, senior reception, commencement, and SCAD Days. You will maintain knowledge in program curriculum in areas relevant to animation and foundation curriculum. You will also establish and maintain regular on-campus office hours. You will be expected to assist department advisers, the chair, and other faculty and staff in maintaining an effective program and attend department meetings and serve on committees as assigned and as appropriate.

SCAD is looking for character animators that have a passion for bringing complex scenes and characters to life and can share that knowledge. The ideal candidate has professional industry experience as an animator and/or layout/previsualization artist focusing on character. The candidate should have experience with the following software: ToonBoom, DragonFrame, and/or TVPaint. Knowledge of Maya is a plus. Experience in designing and creating shots from script and/or storyboards and using cinematic language to tell a story is a necessity. The candidate should have college-level teaching experience, strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with administration, faculty, and students, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The ideal candidate also has strong organizational skills.

Requirements:
- Terminal degree and/or significant professional experience
- Experience as a lead animator or layout/previsualization artist on three to five feature films or a minimum of seven years on multiple television series or high profile ad campaigns
- Reel, website, or flatbook with breakdown of your recent and/or past character performance with work
conveying an understanding of the 12 principles and knowing when to break them
- Reel, website, or flatbook with breakdown of your past students’ animation (if relevant)
