Lead Game Designer

Based in San Diego, Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) has an array of games in development at studios in Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Seattle, WA, and Taiwan including The Agency, Free Realms and DC Universe Online. These new titles are being designed to push the envelope of online entertainment quality, innovation and delivery.
SOE, the company responsible for the pioneering, global EverQuest® entertainment phenomenon, has developed and/or published a number of ground-breaking and genre-defining games, including EverQuest®, EverQuest®II, Star Wars Galaxies®, PlanetSide®, The Matrix Online™, EverQuest® Online Adventures, Champions of Norrath™, Untold Legends™ and Field Commander™.
SOE, which is now part of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI), began operations in 1995 as an online collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Corporation of America.
SOE acquired and fully integrated Verant Interactive to further strengthen Sony’s position in multiplayer online gaming in May of 2000. Six years later, SOE became Sony Online Entertainment LLC, owned by Sony Pictures Digital and Sony Computer Entertainment America.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Managerial responsibility for a staff of systems designers, writers, and level layout
designers.
• Become proficient with proprietary design tools and assist training on these tools
for team members.
• Collaborate with art and programming to help refine production pipelines.
• Develop and implement quests, missions, world design, and overall story that
create a compelling play experience.
• Lead team in execution of creative concepts
• Manage creation of design documents and specifications from scratch
• Analyze and improve upon current design documents and concept documents
• Communicate design goals to fellow game designers
• Guide scripting of game-specific behavior using game specific tools
• Manage current, and development of new balanced game data and entry into game
databases
• Create new gameplay initiatives, and guide to fruition
• Development of game fiction, scenarios and back-story
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to define tasks and meet target dates
• Complete understanding of the game development cycle
• Ability to communicate and work with other disciplines
• Knowing when to be firm and when to be flexible in design
