Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Film Animation

Description

The Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema—Canada’s largest university-based centre for the study of film animation, film production and film studies—enjoys a stellar reputation in film circles around the world. Our school has the distinct advantage of being situated in Concordia’s vibrant Faculty of Fine Arts, where faculty and students have access to numerous cross-disciplinary opportunities, state-of-the-art resources and facilities, and a rich artistic and cultural context for research and study.

Currently, our faculty numbers 20 full-time professors and close to 40 part-time professors, teaching more than 500 students. Our faculty and alumni have strong ties with the Quebec and Canadian film community and have been nominated for or won numerous international film awards including an Academy Award.

The animation program offers both traditional and experimental animation. As part of the Fine Arts Faculty, it is committed to the exploration of independent animation as an art form, and actively encourages diversity of method and technique in traditional as well as new media.

The animation program is hoping to attract a candidate who is familiar with a wide range of animation production methods, 2D and/or 3D, celluloid and digital film, with at least five years experience as a filmmaker and some teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Ideally, we are seeking a creative animation filmmaker with an international reputation and a willingness to teach in and actively engage with the development of the animation program. Animation faculty are expected to teach at the undergraduate level, to perform administrative duties, and actively pursue their research as filmmakers.

Submissions should include a covering letter; a current curriculum vitae; samples of work; evidence of teaching effectiveness including a statement of teaching philosophy and course evaluations (if available); a research statement; and the names and contact information for three referees, and be submitted on or before November 17, 2008 to:
