Lead Stereoscopic TD

The Stereo Pipeline lies among the Camera Pipeline, the Shot Layout Pipeline, and the Lighting/Compositing Pipeline. As such, the Stereo Pipeline needs to be able to either receive from or deliver to the related pipelines. The Senior Stereo TD will use his/her knowledge of the Stereo work flow to assist with the refinement of the Stereo Pipeline, and to consult on issues that affect the related pipelines.

Shots used for Stereo Layout need some preparation so that they conform to shot assembly standards used throughout the shot pipeline. Preparation also includes establishing preliminary, rough lighting. Stereo Layout develops the stereoscopic approach to each shot by establishing camera pairs and "Depth Groups". Depth Groups split up a shot's renderable assets into discrete groups, each seen by a specific camera pair, and that will be rendered and composited apart from members of other groups. Stereo Layout then creates the initial, rough compositing script that is the template used to manage the construction of the composite that will include three outputs: monocular, left, and right. The deliverables from Stereo Layout are published shot cameras with paired stereo cameras, depth group assignments for each geometric asset and camera pair, and the rough stereo composite. Depth groups guide the organization of render passes by the Lighting team. Compositing uses the rough stereo composite to manage the render passes in the compositing work flow. These basic stereo methodologies enable the VFX Supervisor and Stereo Supervisor to establish and manage the stereoscopic design goals for each film.

Responsibilities:

• Work under the direction of the Stereo Supervisor to create the Stereo Layout for assigned shots
• Work with the Stereo Supervisor and the Camera/Layout Technical Supervisor to refine development of the Stereo Pipeline
• Consult with the Lighting and Compositing teams as needed during the lighting, compositing and finaling of shot work
