Position Description
The Scientific Information Visualization Designer plays a critical role in designing and prototyping dynamic interactive graphical diagrams of biological systems. This role will serve as a visualization architect and is expected to contribute to the definition and implementation of effective graphical presentations of Ingenuity’s industry-leading biomedical knowledge in context to scientists. We’re seeking a self-guided, creative professional with strong exposure to information visualization, user-centered design methodology, and basic knowledge of molecular and cell biology.

Primary Responsibilities
• Create high-quality interactive biological pathway diagrams that drive user engagement, insight, adoption, and usage.
• Work with Ingenuity's world-class knowledge specialists to design, develop, and evaluate scientific visualizations that will drive next-generation user experiences in scientific discovery.
• Create conceptual diagrams, interaction flows, and storyboards to drive the design process.
• Perform ad hoc usability testing and evaluations, selecting the appropriate methods as needed.
• Develop and refine interactive prototypes for iterative testing.
• Mentor team members and educate the project team on user-experience best practices.

Required Experience
• Experience with information visualization techniques
• Basic understanding of molecular and cellular biology concepts, and eagerness to help advance biomedical discovery through visual communication
• At least 3 years experience developing innovative graphical interactive designs using an object-oriented programming language (preferably Java)
• Knowledge of human computer interaction, perceptual psychology, analytical reasoning, and related visualization science experience
• Applied knowledge of interaction design best practices and standards
• Demonstrated experience designing and evaluating dynamic, content-centric user interfaces and information visualizations for complex domains
• Experience working with product-development teams and understanding and translating user needs
• Ability to ask appropriate questions and persuasively convey design solutions to a broad range of stakeholders: product management, business development, engineering, executive management, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to develop innovative ideas and execute effectively against them in a highly collaborative environment
• Ability to work quickly and thrive in a fast-paced agile, release-early release-often development environment
• Excellent visual, oral, and written communication skills
• Ability to select among existing methodologies and tools, and where necessary develop new approaches, to drive design processes and communicate design rationale
