Head of Animation
Description
Head of Animation is responsible for the quality of
the animation, for keeping it on brief and for delivering consistent performances
by assigning, or casting, the appropriate Animators. He/She
also make sure the creative desires and production requirements are met, which
means, that he/she must be able to negotiate with both departments to reach the
best agreement for the good of the production.
Main Duties:
- Works directly with the Head
of Production, VFX Supervisor, CG Sup, and the rest of characters teams to
ensure all technology aspects of animation are ready to deliver the
performance the Director requires
- Interpret the brief from
the Director and Producer, and transmit it to the animation team
- Guide, supervise and
review the work produced by the animators
- Responsible for keeping
the animation on model (in style) throughout the production
- Provide the main liaison
between the animation department and those who are involved in previous
and later stages of the production process
- Responsible to the
production department for delivering the required quota of animation, on
time and on budget
- Create, develop, and
build consensus between Technology, Artists, and Production Management to
assist the Director(s) to realize their vision
- Understand the
implications of performance, style, quality and continuity, technical,
scheduling and budgetary requirements.
- Keep track of story and
continuity issues within the shot sequence
- Communicate regularly
with the lighting, rigging, art, and production teams to minimize errors
and inefficiencies in the production pipeline
- Maintains or exceeds
consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing
high quality work
- Attend any relevant
meetings to promote effective communication throughout the production team
- Keep up on current
technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the
production (and the company) in the development of a stronger creative
technical environment
- Work with Producer(s) and
Director(s) to formulate bids and time lines for ambiguous sections of the
movie involving creativity and technology
- Work with Technology,
Look Development, and Production Management to define and produce R&D
goals for the production. These goals should be based on the Look, the
pipeline, and workflow of the departments
Professional Experience:
- 3 years of experience
as a Supervisor or at least 5 years Lead experience
- Experience of 10 or
more years in CG animation production for television, film, games or
visual effects
- Additional experience in computer modeling
and character rigging
- Demonstrated expertise in the following:
animation, rigging, sketching and/or drawing skills
- Strong working
knowledge of Maya
- Experience building new pipelines.
Knowledge
- Outstanding
understanding of shape, composition, physical motion, weight and balance
- Traditional animation
basic knowledge. Capability in capturing and transmitting the acting
personality to the characters
- 2D animation skills
will be taken into consideration
- Good understanding of
3D computer graphics theory and practice
- Advanced English level
