Associate Chair of Foundation Studies

Description

Join SCAD Hong Kong as Associate Chair of the Foundation Studies and Painting departments.

In this role, you will inspire your students as they develop innovative solutions, advance their drawing and design skills and build the visual language essential to their future creative careers. You will develop curriculum and assist the dean in evaluating professors within the department of foundation arts and painting through class observations and review of student evaluations, service and professional development and contributions to the departmental goals. You will also teach classes annually, as assigned.

Working with the dean, you will develop, implement and oversee departmental budgets as well as provide professional development opportunities for professors. You will also work with the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate students. In addition to assisting the dean with day-to-day administration, you will foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of the SCAD foundation studies and painting departments in academic and professional circles.

The SCAD undergraduate experience is anchored in foundation studies, a thoughtfully curated series of courses that provides students with a studio foundation. Skills acquired in foundation studies propel students into major-specific disciplines where their achievements are internationally recognized with honors such as 2018 Emerging Product Designer of the Year presented by the European Product Design Award, 2018 CFDA Geoffrey Beene Design Scholarship Award, 2017 Student Emmy Award for Best Scripted Series and more. Graduates of the university’s multifaceted painting program have been exhibited at world-renowned museums, including the Guggenheim, the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian American Museum.

The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio of professional work and the ability to teach drawing, design and painting in an active and engaging learning environment. University-level administration and Adobe Creative Suite experience is preferred.

From skyscrapers to sacred temples, white-sand beaches to mountain views, Hong Kong’s creative scene spreads across the region. Providing the perfect backdrop for teaching and learning, the vibrant island city of Hong Kong thrives as a global capital of entertainment, digital media, fashion and design.

Requirements:

• A minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience
• University-level administration experience is preferred
