Associate Chair of Graphic Design

SCAD Savannah seeks an Associate Chair of Graphic Design to stay at the forefront of leading trends in emerging media and lead the team that nurtures award-winning future graphic designers.

As the core of graphic design at SCAD, design thinking is the creative process for students to shift focus, look from multiple perspectives and realize how their perception influences meaning. In this role, you will guide talented students as they progress in their design thinking and collaborate with other SCAD departments at the forefront of diverse fields.

Innovative, energetic and with personal and professional integrity, the ideal candidate has outstanding interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills to motivate students and faculty in thinking creatively and critically. With proven leadership experience, they have the ability to work with all people of diverse backgrounds and encourage student experimentation to help them generate work in a range of styles. Strong drawing skills, a unique aesthetic, extensive experience producing graphic design in traditional and digital media and knowledge of the history of graphic design is essential.

Responsibilities include managing day-to-day administration of the academic department; directing, coordinating and evaluating the graphic design department; planning curriculum and class schedules; fostering interdepartmental collaboration to continuously enhance the reputation of the SCAD graphic design department in academic and professional circles; overseeing the departmental budget including its development and implementation; working with the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and to the department; evaluating professors within the department through in-class observations, student evaluations and reviews of their professional development and contributions to the department’s goals; collaborating with the chair and SCAD leadership to provide professional development opportunities for professors; outlining, in consultation with the associate dean and department members, a strategic plan for the department that is consistent with School of Communication Arts’ goals and overall SCAD strategic plan and teaching classes annually as assigned.

Requirements:
• Terminal degree in graphic design or related field
• College-level teaching experience preferred
• Published credentials, accolades and industry recognition
