Associate Chair of Fine Arts

Join SCAD Atlanta as Associate Chair of Fine Arts and help lead a vibrant department that encourages students to push the boundaries of fine art and new media expression while mastering classical methods of instruction and practice.

At Savannah College of Art and Design, our students and alumni have exhibited at nationally renowned museums, including the Guggenheim, the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian; shared their work at the world’s most prestigious art fairs, such as the Hong Kong International Art Fair and Art Basel Miami Beach; partnered with leading global brands; and been featured in distinguished media outlets such as CNN and Wired.

In this role, you will take our fine arts program to the next level as you manage day-to-day administration, direct, coordinate and evaluate the department, develop curriculum, foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of SCAD fine arts in academic and professional circles. You will also oversee the departmental budget, including its development and implementation; work with the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and to the department; teach classes annually as assigned; evaluate professors within the department through class observations and reviews of student evaluations, service and professional development and contributions to the department’s goals; work with the associate dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors; and develop, in consultation with the associate dean and
department members, a strategic plan for the department consistent with School of Fine Arts’ goals and overall SCAD strategic plan.

The ideal candidate demonstrates innovation, energy and personal and professional integrity as well as the ability to encourage experimentation and help students generate work in a range of styles and media. They have proven leadership capabilities, outstanding interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to work with students and faculty of diverse backgrounds to motivate them to think creatively and critically. A unique style, aesthetic and viewpoint, strong representational painting background, published credentials, accolades and industry recognition and extensive experience producing both traditional and digital media are essential.

The successful candidate has the ability to effectively guide students in representational skills acquisition, knowledge of traditional painting techniques, contemporary art theory and current critical theory, past or current gallery representation and interest in teaching a class on the business practice of art.

Requirements:
• Terminal degree or its equivalent in painting or a related field
• Minimum of five years of university-level teaching experience
• A background in online supplemental programming and teaching preferred
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
