Studio General Manager- LA

The Sphere is a new spherical entertainment venue crossing over the lines of traditional media and entertainment. The space contains a LED media plane, a nearly four-acre screen, a revolutionary audio systems, roughly 17,500 seats and a massive internal voulmetric space waiting for new shows, artist residencies and other forms of entertainment. 

The Studio General Manager is responsible for the effective day to day running of the LA Studio which is responsible to create and execute the media for the main attraction shows. He/She ensures alignment to our global framework and strategy; including overseeing the implementation of objectives, shaping and planning and managing financially and operational risk. We are looking for a savvy, driven, financially astute and operationally-focused entertainment production leader.

The Studio General Manager will be the site leader for all employees of the MSG LA office and is responsible for oversight of all day-to-day creative and technical production operations. Focus will be on creating and leading a fully operating digital media production studio; implementing operational production policies and procedures to maximize effect; administering practical solutions for continual increase of departmental interaction, workplace efficiencies, and productivity. 

Must have hands on knowledge of and leadership in the following: VFX, large format digital media or digital Animation. 

The successful incumbent will have 15-20+ years of experience, strong leadership skills, experience with a large production studio with artistic and entertainment commercial endeavors and will have strong experience in growth companies. 

Specific Functions:

· Is the site leader for Los Angeles media production studio.

· Unites office, cascades policies, establishes efficient processes across a matrixed organization; drives consistency of performance, management and expectations.

· Continues to build, mentor, and maintain a team of the most talented and passionate creative and production technology individuals in the industry.

· Makes strategic staffing and capacity decisions with input from head of production, executive producers and talent managers. Oversees and manages development and production productivity across departments.

· Ensures transparency into production spend with production finance on financial reporting, methodologies, goals and strategies on a regular basis to evaluate performance. Partners closely with finance to analyze activities, costs, operations and forecast data to determine progress toward stated Company goals and objectives

· Strategizes with Head of Production and Creative Executive Producers to realign projects if production objectives are not being met. Work with Production Management and Directors to identify budgetary consequences and tradeoffs to aid with prioritizing and decision-making. Ensure that projects are scheduled accurately and are kept on track.

· Is a mentor, ambassador and representative of MSG’s culture and initiatives and builds strong partnerships with cross functional leaders. Facilitates strong interdepartmental communication and cooperation.

· Works alongside People Practices, establish local practices that promote healthy, productive studio culture consistent with the company’s vision.

Qualifications:

· 15 to 20+ years’ experience in development/production at a well known studio and/or production company with leadership and oversight responsibilities across multiple complex projects.

· A proven leader. Prior experience as a studio leader, general manager, head of production, or head of large production department head overseeing workflows and driving successful execution of milestones, on-quality, on-budget, and on-schedule for relevant productions.

· Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in managing project, departmental and operational risks related to projects.

· Concrete development or production experience, including piloting, planning and strategy is a must.

· Strong leadership, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, negotiating, facilitation, organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.

· Solutions-oriented with ability to drive initiatives through to completion.

· Proven mentoring, supervisory, talent development and team-building skills in a creative organization.

· Thrives in a high-pressure, dynamic entertainment production environment.

· Ability to work in a matrix environment and across multiple locations.

· Bachelor’s degree. Master’s preferred.

Special Requirements of the Job:

· Some travel to head office.
