Game Director
Description
Phaser Lock Interactive is looking for a Game Director to lead a new VR project. You bring eight-plus years of experience to the table, have shipped numerous products as either a game design lead or a game director, and you are ready to share that experience with our team; you’re a mentor, a guide, and a leader among your team. You know how to communicate big ideas and creative thinking to executives, team members, and partners; you can succinctly define your vision and break it down to the smallest detail, using it to inspire those around you and motivate your team. You are an expert on the video game industry and its evolution, the love of virtual reality and are aware of market trends; you’re relentless in your pursuit of creativity and attempt to capture it in every aspect of what you do.
Responsibilities
Game Design Director:
Collaborate with the Team Leads to create vision that is innovative, creative, strong, appropriate and implementable by the team
Create innovative and engaging mechanics through iterative prototyping
Design novel gameplay while staying true to original IP's core brand values and overarching game vision at all times.
Sprint, feature and overall scope planning to ensure the team is able to meet its goals on time and budget
Follow through and ensure that the project vision is reflected in all stages of design and implementation of game mechanics, systems, controls and the player experience
Guide, inspire and support the development team, defining the methods and strategies appropriate to the project and championing them towards creative success
Collaborate with team disciplines, harmonizing design throughout the company and working directly with partners and vendors
Must be passionate about storytelling, games with storylines, narrative design, story design
Remain current on industry trends including: new game genres, new game design methods and emerging platforms.
Experience and Skills:
Bachelors in computer science, software engineering, industrial design, game design or equivalent;
Minimum 8+ years’ experience in video game design and production;
Must have shipped 2 or more console or mobile games
5+ years of experience leading game teams and defining game design direction.
Creative vision control for game design, sound, aesthetic, narrative design
Make rule book for design processes, documentation and tools/programs
Address QA/bug/troubleshooting issues
Strong communication skills
Experience with bringing games from inception to launch
Ability to communicate effectively
High proficiency in Agile Project management software tools (Trello, JIRA, basecamp, etc..)
Deep knowledge of Unity
Full time position with vacation, PTO and benefits available.
Austin based location required, but currently available for remote work.
