Game Design & Production Instructor

The Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE), a post-secondary non-profit organization, is a leading specialist educator in Video Game Development for the fields of Programming, 3D Game Art & Animation, and VFX. Established in Australia in 1996, AIE educates students for employment and career opportunities through the provision of world-class education as well as acting as a catalyst to build these industries.

AIE is hiring a full-time Game Design & Production Instructor to join our Seattle campus faculty team. This teacher will work closely with other faculty in the Game Design & Production, Game Programming and Game Art / VFX divisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivering the course content using a combination of practical tutorials, lectures and one to one support
  • Planning, creation, and development of new course materials, lectures, and methods
  • Advising and assisting students on both creative and technical issues
  • Monitoring student progress including attendance, coursework, and informal & formal assessments
  • Interviewing prospective student applicants
  • Building school and student connections to industry to enhance employment opportunities
  • Working collaboratively with faculty and staff on events, initiatives, and improvements

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A passion for Game Design and Production
  • Enthusiasm to work with students and pass on your knowledge and skills
  • Commercial experience designing games, ideally across a range of platforms and genres
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • There is no specific requirement for teaching experience nor formal academic training but both of those would be considered beneficial, as would similar roles such as training, mentorship, or presenting.

Practical, up-to-date knowledge of:

  • Game design theories and application
  • Production methodologies
  • Current industry standards
  • Unreal game engine
  • A desire to maintain and learn new skills relating to new technology and software used by industry.

Important information:

  • This is a full-time position with regular hours each week.
  • Classes run on a studio model 9am and 6pm Monday through Friday.
  • Preparation time and regular inter-staff meetings are included in the hours.
  • AIE provides staff with all software and equipment required to deliver the courses. The school is dedicated to teaching on industry standard equipment.
  • AIE Seattle is currently teaching all classes in-person while following all necessary safety protocols and guidelines.
