Role Summary

The Concept Artist is responsible for conceptualizing, designing and executing digital assets to create the visual narrative for Shows, Immersive content through the worlds, moods, stories, color and character development. The ideal candidate will be up to speed on the latest best practices and have a strong grasp on basic design fundamentals like balance, composition and color theory. Drawing and sketching for animation and sketching UX for interactive installations are key. In order to create our unique and broadly appealing Sphere stories, we look for multi-cultural storytellers who have universal and diverse perspectives, and a sweet and subversive sense of story. We invite artists of all levels, with diverse backgrounds and experiences, to come work with us.

Specific Functions/Activities 

  • Able to take a seed of an idea and flush out all aspects of the design, at times independently and other times collaboratively with design team. This may include specific assignments such as:
    • Visualizations of creative use of exterior and interior spaces at The Sphere; this may include iterative concepts around existing designs as well as additional structures and/or props
    • Design to support presentations around a variety of creative projects
    • Mood paintings for creative development and show concepts
    • Create illustration quality key art production painting
  • Work closely with Immersive Creative Director and Immersive Art Director on fast paced pitches to develop user experience storyboards and sketch general concepts
  • Generate rough concepts to explore new designs within the style of the show or brand activation
  • When requested, create and present innovative ideas to enhance visual concepts and designs
  • Superior eye and ability to translate a thorough understanding of color, composition, detail, texture and lighting into designs and/or paintings
  • Ideally experience in creating both elevated architectural drawings and theatrical stage designs
  • Ensure all artwork is properly backed up, organized and stored appropriately

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience as a Concept or Visual Development Artist creating environment concept artwork for animation, film or video games
  • Imagination coupled with a high degree of artistic skill
  • Unique point of view, strong design and/or paint foundation to execute on the creative vision
  • Paintings that demonstrate a wide range of techniques from classical to stylized that shows a deep understanding of composition, color theory and storytelling and a thorough design foundation including knowledge of perspective, composition, painting, lighting and color theory
  • Strong versatile, dramatic, fundamental and dynamic drawing and draftsmanship skills
  • Amazing creative and visual story telling abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative suite and digital creative tools, working knowledge of other creative software (e.g. Zbrush, Maya, Modo, SketchUp, 3DStudio Max, Rhino) is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Is an enthusiastic team player, who genuinely enjoys working and collaborating with others
  • Strong time-management skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to take feedback, criticism and rework material while maintaining a fresh perspective
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under fast paced, high pressure with short deadlines.
