The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, andTechnology and the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History at The Universityof Texas at Dallas invites applications for an Endowed Chair in Asian Art andArchitectural History at the rank of Full Professor, with tenure, beginningFall 2024. We seek applications from scholars who demonstratea distinguished record of publications, an active and dynamic research agenda,a strong teaching profile, and innovative and interdisciplinary interests inthe study of Asian art. Applications from advanced Associate Professors withexceptional research and scholarship profiles indicative of prominence in theirareas of specialization will also be considered. We welcome any areaand period of specialization in the field, but the candidate must be able toteach a survey of Asian Art.
Responsibilities include teaching 4 courses per academicyear, advising in the candidate’s area of expertise, as well as teaching moregeneral or thematic courses. Opportunities include curatorial and researchcollaboration with the Athenaeum, the campus location of the Crow Museum ofAsian Art and its distinguished collections from Cambodia, China(including Tibet), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand,and Vietnam. One of the few museums in the US dedicated to Asian art, theAthenaeum opens in fall 2024 and will feature exhibition and teaching spaces,and a conservation lab, conducive to faculty and student research. Successfulcandidates will have further opportunities to engage with the Asian art collectionsin the Dallas Museum of Art, where the O’Donnell Institute maintains a researchcenter, seminar room, and guest lecturer space.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD in Asian Art, Art History, or a related discipline isrequired prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate theability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamicenvironment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, andperspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarlyor creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high qualityteaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from arange of backgrounds and experiences.
EdithO’Donnell Institute of Art History
Starting with a founding gift from the late Edith O’Donnellin fall 2014, the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History today operates withan endowment of $30,000,000. It is a center for innovative research andeducation that embraces the study of art and architecture across geography,chronology, and medium. The first art history research institute founded in thedigital age, the O’Donnell Institute further explores the intersection betweenthe visual arts and the sciences and technology. Much of our research,teaching, and scholarly programming involves collaborations with museums andother academic programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Endowed Chair position includes a generous annualresearch budget and funding for research assistants.
