TheHarry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The Universityof Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor(tenure track) to begin fall 2024. The Bass School at UT Dallas is amultidisciplinary academic research school with leading-edge programs inanimation, games, emerging media, and the arts. We seek candidates with arecord of accomplishment in virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality,and immersive media to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will haveexperience within the AR/VR/XR/virtual production industry.
Essentialduties include teaching four courses annually at the undergraduate and graduatelevel; mentoring undergraduate capstone students; and contributing topublic-facing programming. Faculty members are expectedto develop creative works or research programs that are nationally recognized forinnovation and excellence. We are especially interested inapplicants who can contribute to a diverse campus community through theirteaching and mentoring.
Qualifications
MinimumEducation and Experience: An MFA, PhD orequivalent in game design, computer scienceor a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates areexpected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highlycollaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals witha range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidatesable to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhancethe program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-basedpractices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds andexperiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: Candidates should have records of excellence increative practice in virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, andimmersive media. Areas of secondary specialization may include interactive artinstallations, art games, indie games, interactive narrative, digitalstorytelling, animation/vfx, tools development, digital sculpting,architecture, gamification, artificial intelligence, machine learning,sustainability.

TheAnimation and Games Area at The University of Texas at Dallas is one of the topprograms in the state of Texas. We are ranked as the #1 Game Design program andthe #2 Animation program in the state according to the Princeton Review. Ourprogram has 17 full-time faculty members with numerous film, television, andgame credits that have garnered many awards including the Academy Awards,BAFTA’s, Annie Awards, Esports Game of the Year, and others. Ourstate-of-the-art labs give students and faculty the opportunity to learn andengage in research across all aspects of animation and games whether theirinterests lie in 3D, 2D, Motion Capture, VR, AR, and anything else they canimagine.
