The ComputerAnimation Department is a nationally-respected program, which provides a rigorousprofessional education for our students. A highly-collaborative teachingenvironment merges the aesthetic of feature film with today’s most currenttechnology. Computer Animation majors are professionally-focused on theanimated feature film industry with linear narrative stories. Students in theComputer Animation major have won 17 studentAcademy Awards© and have had their work in Siggraph’s Electronic Theater 30 times.
Facilities: Ringling College’s ComputerAnimation Department is located in a 20,000 square foot facility. The facilityis designed to replicate a professional studio environment, and boasts the highest-end state-of-the-art computer laboratories and a20,000-core render farm. A full-time Institutional Technology staff supportsthe Department.
The Position:The ComputerAnimation Department is seeking qualifiedcandidates for a facultymember to teach 3D computer animation, which also requires experience inmodeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, and compositing in the 3Denvironment.
Included amongthe Duties and Responsibilities of this positionare teaching students the production skills necessaryto create, texture, rig, animate, light, and render 3D assets. Primaryresponsibilities are teaching within a structure of three courses or ninecredits per semester using high-end resources. Ongoing commitment to stayingcurrent in the field is expected.Active participation in faculty, department, and committee duties is required.
Thisis a full-time appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate withthe candidate’s qualifications and experience.The anticipated start date is August 2024. The College has a supportive,collegial faculty, a curriculum that strongly values excellence and a robustsupport system dedicated to using the most currenttechnology.
(Minimum Qualifications) Include evidence of:
· Either a Master’s degreein Animation, Illustration, or a relatedfield, OR a 4-year professional degree in art ordesign and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an appropriaterecord of professional achievement in the field.
· Ability to teach modeling,texturing, animation, lightingand compositing.
· Strong knowledge and practice of the principles of animation.
· Experience with Maya.
· Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
· A strong understanding of filmic languageand composition for both large andsmall screen.
· Dedication to providing qualityinstruction.
(Preferred Qualifications) Include evidence of:
· An MFA or otherterminal degree in the field.
· Experience with Zbrush.
· Experience with story and character development, storyboarding, animatics,descriptive drawing and film theory.
· Experience with Nuke.
