Assistant/Associate Professor of DigitalMedia Arts
Empire State University is currently seekingan Assistant/Associate Professor of Digital Media Arts in our School of Artsand Humanities to join a vibrant community of scholar-practitioners and artistswhere innovation in online arts education meets cutting-edge creative practice.The Department of Arts and Media is home to award-winning faculty acrosscreative writing, digital media arts, game art and design, performing arts,visual arts and design, and interdisciplinary arts.

Our bachelor's degree in digitalmedia arts exemplifies this innovation, incorporating state-of-the-artapproaches to online arts education while preparing students for dynamiccareers in creative industries. We are at the forefront of integratingartificial intelligence applications across our curriculum while teaching AIliteracy, empowering students to engage critically, creatively and ethicallywith emerging technologies in the arts.
The successful candidate will join acollaborative community of arts and media faculty who are shaping the future ofarts education. You will have opportunities to develop forward-thinkingcurriculum, engage in scholarly and creative activities, and contribute to ourdepartment's tradition of excellence in online teaching and learning. We seek adynamic artist-educator who will develop and teach online courses andindependent studies in the digital media arts and related areas, servinglearners across New York State, nationally, and worldwide. The role includesmentoring students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines while demonstratinga strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the facultyrole.
The Assistant/Associate Professor of DigitalMedia Arts will collaborate with Arts and Media colleagues to teach the DigitalMedia Arts curriculum in areas such as Digital Art and Design, DigitalStorytelling, History and Theory of New Media, 2D & 3D animation, 3Dmodeling, interactive media, and related disciplines such as gaming andimmersive technologies/virtual environments. They will guide students throughthe process of creating advanced digital media arts projects while integratingboth theory and practice. Engagement in an active creative and research agendaand ongoing service to the university are expected. SUNY Empire supportsfaculty as they pursue scholarly work and professional development activitiesthat enhance their teaching, research, and creative practice.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and teach a range of courses inDigital Media Arts and related areas.
• Engage in active research and/or creativework relevant to digital media arts and/or related disciplines.
• Mentor and advise students from diversebackgrounds, assisting them in their educational and professional development.
• Contribute to curriculum development andinnovation in digital media arts education, including AI literacy andartificial intelligence applications in the disciplines.
• Collaborate with industry and academicpartners to enhance the program's relevance and impact.
• Participate in service to the department,university, and professional communities.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
• An earned terminal degree (MFA ordoctorate) from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S.university.
• College or university level teachingexperience.
• Experience with supporting diversepopulations.
• Ability to work in a distributed facultyenvironment.
• Proficiency in industry-standard softwaresuch as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, and Unity or Unreal Engine.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with teaching and mentoring inonline learning environments.
• Experience with academic programdevelopment.
• Relevant industry and/or field experience.
• Professional experience in digital mediaarts industries such as design, gaming, film, or interactive media.
• Fluency with artificial intelligenceapplications in the digital media arts.
• Cross-disciplinary expertise in one or moreof the following areas: game art and design, digital communication
• Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish andEnglish.
Special Information:
• Occasional travel will be required tofulfill university-wide commitments.
• Office hours will vary to accommodatestudent needs.
• Some evening and/or weekend engagement withstudents is required.
