Post Visual Effects Production
At Frantic, we’ve built our reputation delivering precise and compelling post-VFX sequences for a host of projects. Our signature work includes the orbital destruction of Krypton and the Kryptonite missile-launch in Superman Returns; the bullet-time bank explosion in Swordfish; and the Emmy-nominated storm effects for Stephen King’s Storm of the Century. Crossing a broad range of movie genres, Frantic has consistently advanced the creative potential of post VFX technology. We’ve brought new visual dimensions to films such as Paycheck, Silent Hill, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, The Italian Job and Idlewild.

Previsualization and Look Development
Incorporating next-generation ideas and advancements from our R&D team, we’ve created complex look development and proof-of-concept reels for numerous films—including structural Kryptonite reactions for Superman Returns. Frantic is also able to generate previsualization for any timeframe, whether clients seek a simple production tool for scene execution or a detailed sequence to sell creative direction to studios. Our previz work has provided early visual concepts for films such as X2: X-Men United, Poseidon and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Custom Software Solutions for Post VFX
Frantic’s in-house R&D team specializes in delivering custom solutions to your visual effects challenges. We unveiled our innovative ocean surface software, Flood: Surf for Superman Returns, as well as a custom Crystal Management System (or CMS) for enhanced crystal growth. Our highly adaptable, custom fluid simulator Flood has been used extensively in feature films—creating dense silt effects for Superman Returns and liquid skin effects for the Tar Monster in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Meanwhile, Frantic has developed the high-volume particle renderer Krakatoa, capable of producing billions of particles per frame. The software was initially devised to handle particle-intense animations from Richard Baily’s Spore software; the end results were the supernatural lighting effects for the finale of Stay. Since then, Krakatoa has proven to be a flexible platform for production pipelines, interfacing with a variety of creative design tools. After using Krakatoa to render particles driven through 3ds Max’s Particle Flow, Frantic was able to generate fine-detailed explosions for Superman Returns. Frantic has also combined Krakatoa with Flood by using the simulator’s physics dynamics to drive particle motion—and then rendering those particles in Krakatoa. This technique enabled Frantic to create realistic smoke effects for Wes Craven’s Cursed.
