Assistant Technical Director, Media Services

The Assistant Technical Director works with the Media Services team to help design and create workflow efficiencies within the existing production pipeline parameters.  They will help support the smooth running of publishing media into the correct formats within the existing database and directory framework.  As such, this position requires the use and development of scripting tools as well as knowledge of common 3rd party media production applications. The Technician provides technical support for other members of Media Services in addition to providing day-to-day services for Marketing.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Work with the Media Services Manager, Production Technology and IT to:
    • Support and maintain the Marketing database , provide technical support to outside users, build and improve database page views and design
    • Help establish new secure ways of sharing media with outside vendors (netflicks/streaming style)
    • Support and maintenance of current file sharing applications (Aspera, Hightail, etc.)
    • Design and implementation of archiving and tools.
  • Work with the Media Services group to develop new scripted tools for increased efficiency.  These could be in areas such as, but not limited to:
    • Unit Photography and Videography publishing and processing
    • Stage workflow and support
    • Scanning and Photogrammetry workflow, publishing and processing
    • The digital notice board
    • Light modeling and preparation of 3d files for use by outside

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 3-5 years of computer science education or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient with basic shell scripting; bash, tcsh, etc
  • Basic understanding of Python, object oriented programming, and data structures
  • Experience developing or testing tools on Mac and linux operating systems
  • Knowledge and experience in managing data in a networked computing environment, the use of databases, and understanding of the importance of data integrity and conventions

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with professional DSLR cameras and basic knowledge of photography and digital image processing
  • Python UI experience – PyQT, PySide, TKinter, WxPython
  • Familiarity with Imagemagick or ffmpeg
  • Javascript/HTML experience
  • Experience in a professional media production environment
  • Knowledge of 3d Modeling and experience with one or more 3D software systems a plus

 

Job Conditions

 

This position works under normal film production conditions, the pressure of deadlines may sometimes be intense, requiring the flexibility to work long hours, which may include weekends upon request.
