Pipeline UX Designer

DreamWorks Animation is looking for a talented, proactive, and self-directed UX designer that can straddle the gap between concepts and code, to help us develop the next generation of Studio Production tools.

The ideal candidate must have a clear understanding of user-centered design process, be able to execute against it and have demonstrated ability to effectively partner with product planners and managers, program managers and development, to shepherd end to end experiences from concept to release. You are a great creator, collaborator, communicator and can defend and build consensus around your designs.

The UX Designer will rapidly produce prototypes from initial concepts, scenarios, wireframes, task maps, design briefs, engineering specifications, sketch, create visual language guidelines, motion studies, and other artifacts required to develop and evolve user experience designs. You will work (primarily) with developers and program managers to ensure the visual design enhances the overall user experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Gathering input from stakeholders and using your extensive user experience design knowledge and industry experience to help shape project requirements and scope
  • Coordinate with engineering management to help scope out and schedule development tasks
  • Creating user-flows, artwork, presentations, etc. to help communicate design approach and concepts and help gain alignment across project team members
  • Developing annotated low- to medium-resolution wireframes, ensuring you offer multiple design options to help elicit meaningful feedback from end users and engineers
  • Flesh out your designs and refine interactions programmatically or through collaboration with project engineers
  • Creating highly detailed design specifications that can be handed off to engineers for implementation
  • Revising and updating designs and documentation based on continuing user testing and feedback
  • Driving best practices with an eye toward standardization and simplification of user workflows

Required Skills
  • 3+ years related UX design experience in product, company or agency.
  • BA/BS in design, computer science, or a related field, with significant industry experience.
  • MA/MS in interface, graphic, information design a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge in related industries (e.g. Computer Animation, Gaming, Visual Effects)
  • Software programming experience is a plus (e.g. Python, HTML, CSS, QT, and JavaScript)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience designing for creative and collaborative workflows
  • Experience in information architecture, user research, and creating design specifications
  • Experience creating flow charts, wireframes, and mockups
  • Fluent in Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop, Sketch, and/or other design applications
  • Must be able to present multiple design options, collect a variety of feedback from different stakeholders, and quickly turn around new design proposals
  • Experience working directly with engineers to ensure the successful implementation of a design
  • All candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of work samples and/or links to their work or participate in a design challenge
  • Change management experience is a plus
