Description
The University of the Arts seeks an
Assistant Professor to teach 3D/Game Animation in both the BFA in Animation and
the BFA in Game Art programs, in the College of Art, Media and Design for a
multi-year/non-tenure track faculty position. Salary and rank are
commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be
able to teach from beginning to advanced senior studio levels. Areas of
teaching may include: 2D/3D Animation, 3D Modeling, 3D Character Rigging, and
Game/Level Design.
The full-time teaching load is 18
credits, typically six courses per year (3/3). Assistant Professors typically begin
with a 3-year renewable contract and Associate with 5-years. In
addition to teaching, full-time faculty are expected to maintain a professional
art practice; serve on university committees; advise students; and participate
in curriculum development and other departmental activities. The search
committee will consider the candidate’s potential to work towards a leadership
role in either of these programs and the university. Research leave
opportunities and sabbaticals are available to full-time faculty.
In recognition of the University’s
Academic and Strategic Plans and the recommendations that support a commitment
to the spirit of experimentation and invention in the education of young
artists and designers, the new Assistant/Associate Professor will be expected
to instruct within the BFA program with artistic and academic innovation. The
hallmarks of the Academic and Strategic Plans include greater opportunity for
collaborative learning and encouragement of our faculty and students to
question the conventions and boundaries that underpin disciplinary
traditions.
The combined enrollment for the
College of Art, Media and Design is approximately 1200 students. Students in
the Animation and Game Art programs use a full range of technology, media tools
and techniques to create their own artistic vision. The curriculum is designed
to encourage students to be creative and inventive while they develop a solid
technical competency serving them well in both professional and fine art
practices.
Located prominently on the Avenue of
the Arts in Center City Philadelphia, the University of the Arts is one of the
oldest and largest comprehensive private institutions of higher education
devoted to the arts in the United States. Its undergraduate and graduate
programs prepare students for more than 150 professional career paths in the
visual, performing, media, design and communication arts, and related fields.
Qualifications:
A BFA, MFA preferred, in Digital
Media, New Media, Game Art/Design, Animation or a related area, evidence of
college-level teaching experience beyond graduate school, commitment to
teaching, and a minimum of 3 years professional experience. A strong record of
professional achievement, a comprehensive grasp of the history of animation
and/or video games, a familiarity with the concepts of 3D graphics and
animation in general, and an interest in multidisciplinary projects and
curriculum are desired.
Software skills:
Maya, Mudbox/ZBrush, Photoshop, After Effects and Unity/Unreal. Experience with
Mecanim/(A.R.T),
Flash/Toon Boom/TVPaint a strong plus.
